Going to University/College for the first time is an exciting prospect, however often the focus on education, socializing and enjoying greater freedoms can mean that personal safety is forgotten or not given the emphasis it deserves e.g., there may be a tendency for new students to believe that everyone else is coming from the same background as themselves, with the same goals and aspirations etc., without realizing this may not be the case; one of the most commonly stolen items on university campuses are not electronic goods, such as laptops and other devices but academic/course books which are taken by fellow students rather than by hardened, urban offenders etc.
For female students especially, it is of particular importance to understand what the precursors to sexual assault can look like e.g., the grooming processes and methods that a predator will use to gain access to those they target, and how socially awkward situations can be deliberately constructed to encourage those targeted to engage in something that makes them uncomfortable.
The aim of this 90-minute seminar is to present some of the common threats and dangers that female students face, and solutions to them in a factual and non-sensational manner. The seminar will be a mix of self-protection/personal safety where participants will be equipped with the ability to recognize dangerous situations before, and as they develop, along with some basic physical skills and techniques which will improve their ability to deal with situations that require a physical solution.
This hands-on session is taught at Krav Maga Yashir in Woburn by Gershon Ben Keren (his bio can be accessed by clicking here).
Although free, registration is required as places are limited. Please use the buttons below to access the appropriate sign up form. This seminar is open to women ages 16 to 23 (those who are under eighteen will need a parent/guardian to sign them up). This is an extremely targeted seminar, looking at young women, who are at or looking to go to college/university, and spaces are limited to those meeting this criteria i.e., women ages 16 to 23.
